One of the activities in Harvest Moon is the marriage system. The main storyline of the game always plays out the same, married or not, but it can be a fun extra side thing in the game itself. Here in Bluemist, the system works similarly. Every village is eligible for marriage - yes, even the Goddess, Wizard, Mermaid and any other special magic based character! Does this mean you have to get married in Bluemist? Certainly not, it just means that anyone’s welcome to pine after your character ICly.
A series of steps must be performed to get married. You must,in the end, regardless of gender or role in the relationship, give the to-be-spouse a Blue Feather. You can only marry one person, and you can not get a divorce, so be sure you want it to happen! (What else is dating for, right?)
Before you can get married, you need to have a red heart color, give a Blue Feather, and one, or both contributed, must purchase a double bed. (Store coming shortly.)
Raising the Heart Color
Every roleplay has the possibility of increasing heart color - however keep in mind, the higher the heart color, the longer/more difficult it should be for your characters to progress to the next stages. So perhaps span these out between two or three roleplays instead of every one. There are nine heart colors. Black, grey, white, purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, and red. ( See Heart Chart for list of what they represent. )
Heart Events
Every ‘later’ heart color has a ‘heart event’ attached to it, (Green, Yellow, Orange and Red) when you have reached the first ‘event’ color, the first heart event can occur. Each candidate is eligible to perform this wherever they so please (notes, group chat, group event, artwork..) All you have to do is complete it, and you will be able to increase friendship with the person... or decrease it if you do the wrong thing. Heart events can be anything you desire, be they giving a special item to the other/receiving a special item, going on a ‘date’, or even just attending a festival together. Ideally, the further along in the relationship, the most ‘serious’ the events would be, (ie; some red heart events may be the proposal) but this is in no way required. Breakup heart events may also occur! If your character and another’s do not get along after reaching a high heart rating, a heart event may decrease their heart color if so preferred.
The Blue Feather
If you have seen all four heart events and have a red heart color and a double bed, you can propose to another character by purchasing a Blue Feather. Some candidates may have special marriage requirements, such as a quest or event you have to experience beforehand. (The Goddess sure does!) The two of you traditionally will marry seven days later, or later if so desired. You and your to-be spouse may wear whatever you choose, though there is a traditional wedding gown for the ladies. A drawing may be collaborated or done separately to commemorate such an event, though it’s in no way required.
Children
Like in most Harvest Moon games, you may have a child. You may have two children total, which must be four seasons apart. Before you can have a child you need to get married! Single parents or unmarried parents don’t exist in the Harvest Moon universe, and such situations would likely be looked upon with grand disapproval. A Child Bed must be purchased before a child can be procured, just as you need the double bed for marriage. (A character may be pregnant before purchase, but birth must not come before purchasing the bed!) Like the double bed, one parent or both may purchase the bed by funneling their gold together.
Pregnancy is two seasons. Your baby’s gender may be chosen by you, as can it’s name. Be sure your spouse’s player agrees with both choices! The baby will remain more or less helpless, and in your full care for another two seasons. Your baby then afterward will be crawling and talking. Another two seasons will pass, and your baby bed can be converted into a child’s bed. At this point the child can appear at festivals and can more or less be played as their own character. (Though is still a young child, be aware you cannot age your child into an adult/teen/etc! Children age at the same rate as everyone else. ) However.. the Goddess may be able to give your child a piece of Grow-Up Candy, if asked nicely.
